In the present scenario the information technology plays a very important role in all engineering applications. In electrical engineering, information technology support secure operation, customer participation, market advantages and growth for the power industry. Smart grid refers to electric power system that enhances grid reliability and efficiency by automatically responding to system disturbances. This paper discusses the new communication infrastructure and scheme designed to integrate data, protection control and metering etc.
